This one is for YOU!

Custom Customer (kústəm kústəmər), noun: one who is worthy enough to have something made to fit their requirements.

I’ve had a couple of these lately.

Example: Monday, September 12th 9:52pm
SGYS: Hello
Kris10: I NEED EARRINGS!
SGYS: Okayyyy, what do you need?
KRIS10: Something big, gold and different. It’s for my birthday and I need them by Friday!
SGYS: That’s fine. I can have something ready and delivered to you by Thursday. I’ll work on it and text you some pictures to make sure it’s exactly what you want.
KRIS10: (sigh of relief) Thank you.

Final product…

Did I deliver, or what?

My New Work Schedule is 5-9!

In my circle of friends (Facebook friends included) I’ve noticed that many people are using their basic skills to create a beneficial side hustle. No longer are people settling for that baby-sitting or dog-walking job. They’re reaching higher to find something that will gain them a wide clientele with big wallets.

DJs, party planners, cake decorators, photographers, clothing designers, and, of course, jewelry artists (me) are just some of the few things that have popped up in my news feed. The difference between the new side hustles and the old is the passion that is involved. People have become passionate about things as our generation has started a new culture. We’re more focused on our appearance and everyone wants to be different and if you have something to sell that’ll make them different, then you’re on your way to success.

I’m no expert, but here are some tips to change your mind to a hustler’s mentality:
1. Look around your house! If you’ve searched all over your closet for the perfect accessory and had no luck, then make your own. People will die for your exclusivity. If you’ve scoured the web for the perfect 3D cake for an upcoming birthday to no avail, then start baking.

2. Once you’ve found you niche, make the flip! Think of your full-time job as the job on the side while your talent becomes the main focus. After you swap your viewpoint you will be able to focus most of your energy on advancing your new business.

3. Make sacrifices! Saturday hair and nail appointments should be held off for a while. So should that vacation you had in mind. Sorry. Use this time to meet with people who can help you advance. During your free time intern somewhere for a month, meet with a mentor, network!

4. Once you have clientele, get personal! Package your product so that every customer feels like they spent their money well. Wrapping the product neatly, sending coupons for future purchases or adding an extra surprise gift can get each customer talking about you.

I know that there is so much more to be added to this list but I hope this helps at least to start your dream!

While you’re thinking, check out my friends who are on their way to making it big!

Just in Case You Missed It...

Yesterday's event went well!

And if you missed it, I'm here to rub it in your face…

KarensClosetNY presented "Chic Closet" in collaboration with Fashion's Night Out. I showcased jewelry from She's Got You Stoned to those who trooped to The DUMBO Spot in Brooklyn, New York. We were entertained by the voice of Jayne Kennedi. We got dolled up with complementary manis. And our bellies were filled with light food and alcohol infused cupcakes by Desi Lu Sweets.

Myself and other vendors like LYONS Fashion, BGC Love&Labels, KCNY, Rue 107, and M&J reduced their prices in honor of Fashion’s Night Out and provided discounts for future purchases. All this happened while we bopped to the beats by DJ Will Gates!

Here’s a little peek…
Jayne Kennedi rocking the mic while rocking LYONSFashion...

Complementary manicures for a lovely guest...

Selling my good goods...

Thank you all for the support whether you were in attendance or not.
